The 2:1 Bar contains a precise blend of fast and slow carbohydrates, helping you stay energized during long, steady workouts while also being satisfying to eat.

Fast and Sustained Energy

The 2:1 Bar contains the carbohydrates glucose and fructose, which are rapidly absorbed to provide fast energy. It also contains small amounts of fiber, protein, and fat, which slow down digestion slightly and extend carbohydrate availability. The result is an energy bar that provides quick energy followed by steady release to reliably sustain performance during long, low- and mid-intensity workouts.

Optimal Absorption

Glucose and fructose are absorbed by different transporters in the gut. By combining these two carbohydrates in a 2:1 ratio, the 2:1 Bar allows your body to absorb more carbohydrates per hour while reducing the risk of gut discomfort.

Baseline Hydration

Each bar contains 100 mg of sodium to help replace sweat losses and support fluid absorption. The amount is intentionally moderate, making the bar suitable for situations where you aren’t sweating heavily or when you’re getting electrolytes from other sources.

  • Fast- and slow-release carbohydrates
  • Preserves glycogen stores
  • 30 g of carbohydrates per bar
  • Supports hydration
  • Prevents muscle cramps
  • Soft texture for easy chewing
  • Does not melt or crumble
  • Vegan and contains no artificial sweeteners

We recommend consuming 1-2 bars per hour during low- to moderate-intensity exercise. However, if you have higher energy needs and tolerate solid foods well during exercise, you may consume up to 3 bars per hour or combine them with gels and drinks to meet your hourly carbohydrate targets. You can also consume 1 bar before your workout.

Each bar provides 100 mg of sodium. If you’re sweating heavily, consider consuming additional sodium alongside this bar.

Note: The 2:1 Bar contains some fat, fiber, and protein. These can slow down digestion and cause GI discomfort during high-intensity workouts. Because of this, we do not recommend taking 2:1 Bar immediately before or during high-intensity workouts. Fueling bars containing only rapidly-digesting carbohydrates, such as Jelly Bar, are better choices for these workouts.

Who should use the 2:1 Bar?
The 2:1 Bar is designed for endurance athletes, including cyclists, runners, triathletes, and long-distance athletes. It is particularly suited for long, steady workouts at low to moderate intensities when solid foods are well tolerated. The combination of fast- and slower-digesting carbohydrates helps provide both quick energy and sustained fuel.

How many 2:1 Bars should I take per hour?
Your carbohydrate intake should match the duration and intensity of your workout. Each 2:1 Bar provides 30 g of carbohydrates. For low- to moderate-intensity workouts lasting longer than 90 minutes, most athletes aim for 30–60 g of carbohydrates per hour (1–2 bars).

What’s the maximum number of bars I can take per hour?
Most athletes can comfortably digest 1–2 bars per hour during low- to mid-intensity exercise. Those who are used to higher carbohydrate intake and tolerate solid foods well may consume up to 3 bars per hour. Individual tolerance varies, so it’s best to start with 1 bar per hour and adjust during training to find what works best for you.

Can I use the 2:1 Bar during races or high-intensity workouts?
The 2:1 Bar is not recommended for races or high-intensity workouts. It contains small amounts of fat, protein, and fiber, which slow down digestion and may cause gut discomfort at high intensities. For races or hard efforts, we recommend products that contain only rapidly absorbed carbohydrates, such as the 2:1 Drink, 2:1 Gel, or 2:1 Jelly.

Why does the 2:1 ratio matter?
The 2:1 glucose-to-fructose ratio is important because glucose and fructose are absorbed in the gut via different transporters. There is a limit to how much each transporter can process. On average, most people can absorb a maximum of 60 g of glucose and an additional 30 g of fructose per hour. By combining these carbohydrates in the right ratio, the 2:1 Bar allows you to absorb more total carbohydrates, helping provide steady energy and reducing the risk of stomach discomfort during long or intense sessions. However, these numbers aren’t fixed. Everyone’s digestive system absorbs carbohydrates a little differently, so individual tolerance may vary.

Which is better, a 2:1 or a 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose ratio?
Both ratios are designed to take advantage of how the body absorbs glucose and fructose through different gut transporters, allowing you to take in more carbohydrates per hour with less risk of stomach discomfort. However, everyone’s digestive system digests carbohydrates slightly differently, so some athletes tolerate the 2:1 ratio better, while others prefer the 1:0.8 ratio. The 2:1 ratio contains slightly less fructose, making it less sweet, whereas the 1:0.8 ratio is a bit sweeter. Ultimately, the best choice comes down to your personal preference and what your body tolerates better.

Can I use the 2:1 Bar for gut training?
Yes. Each bar contains a moderate amount of carbohydrates. This makes it easy to gradually increase intake over time. This helps your digestive system adapt so you can tolerate higher carbohydrate intake during long workouts or races.

Why does the 2:1 Bar contain 100 mg of sodium per bar?
Sodium is an important electrolyte that helps maintain fluid balance and support muscle function during exercise. Each 2:1 Bar provides 100 mg of sodium to contribute to your hourly electrolyte needs.

Should I add extra sodium when using the 2:1 Bar?
If you sweat heavily, train in hot conditions, or are prone to cramping, additional sodium may be helpful. You can pair the 2:1 Bar with electrolyte products to meet your individual needs.

Can I combine the 2:1 Bar with gels or drinks?
Yes. Many athletes combine bars with gels or drinks to reach their hourly carbohydrate, sodium, and fluid targets. For optimal gut comfort and absorption, we recommend pairing it with products that also use a 2:1 glucose-to-fructose ratio.

How fast does the 2:1 Bar provide energy?
The 2:1 Bar provides both fast and sustained energy. The glucose and fructose are rapidly absorbed, giving you quick energy, while fiber, protein, and fat extend energy availability to help sustain performance over long, steady efforts.

Is the 2:1 Bar gluten-free?
The 2:1 Bar contains oats, which are naturally gluten-free. However, oats are often processed or stored in facilities that also handle wheat, barley, or rye, which can lead to trace gluten contamination. Because of this, we cannot guarantee that the 2:1 Bar is completely gluten-free.
